Friday, March 5
Hello kids,

Figured it was about time to post an update, since a few things have changed…

Firstly and foremostly, our May tour is no longer happening. Brian has yet to be gainfully employed since he got his degree, and the financial situation just isn’t conducive to it right now. We thank so much everyone who was offering help – primarily Joel Anderson who was offering to book this thing for us and our other friends around the country that we met last time out. We will get to you eventually, we promise.

So let’s just say that for now we’re currently evaluating our future, and that it looks so bright we gotta wear shades. We will surely be better equipped to tour at a later date…

Played with U.S. Maple last weekend in Iowa City and they were amazing and super nice guys. It was great to see all of our old friends there as well – it’s always a treat to travel there.

We’ve been dinking around with recording at home and writing some new songs as well. Got a couple of new shows coming up starting in late March – one with Old Time Relijun which should be great fun.

Pete’s been doing some Falcon Crest stuff (they’re finishing up recording). I’ve been playing guitar sporadically in the Idiot (fyi – we’re NOT playing that show with Don Caballero at the Triple Rock this month).

That’s about it. No nukes. No Bush.

- Jonathon

Not-so-fun facts: Under the Bush administration’s proposed nuclear posture, billions more will need to be spent over the next decade to develop a new facility to produce plutonium "pits" for possible new nuclear weapons, to prepare the Nevada test site for possible underground tests, and to upgrade and modernize other elements of the nation’s nuclear weapons complex. Based on interviews with officials at the Department of Energy, journalist Jonathan Landay has estimated that the Bush administration could spend more than $2 billion over the next six years to "renovate and improve the nation’s aging nuclear weapons laboratories, assembly plants, and testing facilities." This estimate was before the administration endorsed additional new expenditures such as the construction of a new factory for the fabrication of plutonium "pits." A rough estimate based on the FY 2003 budget for nuclear weapons-related work suggests that the Bush administration has increased spending for nuclear weapons development and testing by about $300 million in the 2003 budget, with additional expenditures of $6 billion likely for 2004 through 2008.

About Plutonium:
Named after Pluto – the God of hell, it is the most carcinogenic substance known to humans. It remains toxic for 240,000 years. It currently has no safe means of disposal. A billionth of an ounce if inhaled would kill a person. A piece the size of a nickel, properly distributed, could kill 1 million people. Since the end of WWII, the nuclear industry has generated over 1.5 million metric tons of plutonium.
